Apologies, and a new clipping...

Apologies to the readers of Absolutely More! for the light (well, nonexistent) postings of late. The editors of this blog have just been plain busy. I do personally promise to post more in the near future. (The "near future" being in a couple of weeks, after my finals are over...) I did find the actual clipping from the New Musical Express review that Ken quoted in his last posting, so here it is. (You can click on the images to see a large picture.) Note that you can see fellow bloggers Phil and Ken just behind Colorblind James, in the exciting action photograph from this legendary gig. Also, could one of our British readers please tell us just who the hell the "Dagenham Girl Pipers" are/were?

Great blog. I'm from the UK and like many was turned on to the CBJE by John Peel and Any Kershaw. In the late 1980s I was working at the University of Warwick in Coventry and had the extreme pleasure of catching two great performances by the band.
I lost track somewhat in the 1990s after 'Solid! Behind The Times', an am now tryng to catch up after moving to the USA in 2000. The really elusive album is 'I Could Be Your Guide'. Any hints on where to find a copy for less than the $100 listing on Gemm? I've been checking eBay for a year or so, but the couple of copies I've seen sold for pretty big bucks too. It's a shame to pay a high price knowing that none of the money will go to the musicians.
best wishes, Phil

I just heard Stuart Maconie talking about CbJE on his show (Wed 9th May which you can hear online for the next week, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/radcliffemaconie/?focuswin fast forward c20mins from the end in the Show and Tell slot). He was talking about the gig at the Greyhound as one of the best gigs he ever went to (and as an NME journo he'd have been to plenty). Anyway, I googled it to check, found this site, and indeed, it was the gig I went to, in 1988 with I, Ludicrous supporting. Fond memories. So happy to have been there.

The Dagenham Girl Pipers were and still are, a marching troop of bagpipers, that are indeed all young females and from Dagenham.
